"why does picking up of paper and pen require such ambition?  such effort?  friends emigrate, immigrate, come and go.  women jump on stage for a scene or two before retreating to the wings.  the story that is being written is not actually being written, as this would imply documentation, preservation.  life does not stop or even slow;  it moves continuously, and keeping up with it requires constant movement in itself.  the ideas you have - unique in every way because they're yours - must be accorded the effort they deserve."
